As a tree matures is it completely natural for some of the branches to die off. Eventually a dead branch will decay back to its parent stem. Once this happens they become weak and are more likely to break in high winds. Dead wooding trees is a vital part of tree maintenance, especially if the crown stretches over footpaths, roads or any high impact areas. It involves the selective removal of dead, damaged or diseased branches from the crown. Sometimes, when branches are completely decayed they break off so easily that we get to use a method called “Natural Fracture Pruning”. Also knows as “kicking it off”.
Take a look at your tree when it’s in full leaf. If you see branches with no leaves then they’re most likely dead. If you think it would hurt if it landed on you, go back indoors and give us a call.
